Ovals in Veg tan

Recommended Posts

Does anyone make pre-cut, veg tan oval shapes?

I'm looking for an oval shape around 110 or 120mm measured on the long axis.

I know it's a long shot and I'll probably need to have a press knife/tool made.

Cheers,

Badger

Why not do up a quick oval in Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator, print, trace to poster board or card stock pattern. I'll do one up for you later today,if you wish. How high would you like the oval to be?

I remember Tandy selling ovals years ago- have you checked their catalog? They have lots of pre-cut shapes available. If you are going to need so many that buying a hide and and a die is more economical, there are a couple of companies that make dies listed on the Suppliers page. Cheap alternative- get a cookie cutter (or other template) and press or trace the shape, then trim with Super Shears.

Were you looking for just the pattern or precut ovals. Here is an oval 120mm wide by 60 mm tall.

You can get a mallet die made for around $50 to $80 to stamp out ovals of this size.

Hi Badger,

I sell precut ovals in several sizes. Largest in stock is about 105mm. But if you need maybe up to a hundred, I'm sure I could have a die made. And if you'd rather have a die made, it's possible that I could handle that for you as well. I think we have access to the least expensive die maker in the country. You can reach me at either 800-668-8518, or kevin@springfieldleather.com

Let me know if I can be of help.

Kevin

Having spent most of my life in the art gallery and picturre framing business, I can tell you that a frame shop can cut these all day long and it only takes a minute. I still have several oval/circle cutters around and would be happy to cut as many as you want. Just pm me and let me know if I can help.

Regards.

Many, many thanks to everyone for their wonderful help, advice and suggestions.

I would have responded sooner but have been really sick since yesterday. I won't go into details, but suffice to say there are no longer any birds in the garden and cars speed up when they pass the house............

Ray flew instantly to my aid last night. It seems he had just the thing laying on his bench!

The phone call went something like this:

Ray: What size oval?

Badger: 110mm wide.

Ray: How many do you need?

Badger: About 30.

Ray: How thick?

Badger: 3mm.

Ray (accompanied by a shuffling noise): I'm just putting them in an envelope.....

Seriously.

Badger
