Two front fork bags

Recommended Posts

Two front fork bags I completed. First one is for a 12" wide glide Harley front end. The second one is for the narrow forks, as shown on my wife's Sportster. 10oz. latigo body/ 5-6 oz. gussets.

Really nice job, Tim! I especially like the basketweave job. A lot of folks think that stamping is a "no brainer" as opposed to carving, but there is a real touch needed to do a clean basketweave. You have the touch. Also, is the welt around the edge of the flap part of a lining, or is it a decorative touch?

Thanks, Mike! The flap trim is just an edge piping, or welt. I have a few different colors, depending on the bikes' paint. Alot of cycle accessories have that type of trim. Just looks a little cleaner than a raw edge.

Beeza, Thanks!...the wider bags are 12", narrow 10" gusset 4.5" If you have a specific model in mind, let me know. The slots for mounting to the forks vary, depending on the model, as HD has a few different fork dimensions.

I agree with beeza...clean basketweave like that is no small feat...well done. I didn't realize latigo leather would take tooling that well. Do you have a preferred source?

Yes Tim, very clean looking work. I like the piping around the outer rim as well, the added details are always a nice touch, and really help to make the work pop out.

Thanks for sgaring the pics.

thanks tim!

i have also not known that latigo could be tooled.

could you give me the aproximate lenght of the body?

i am going to make a form to wet mold the ends.

will latigo wet mold at all? if not i'll stick with veg tan

my bags are all made to order and i place the strap mounting slots far enough apart to acomidate just about and fork width and diameter. i do ask for a center to center measurement but they all pretty much fall within a couple inches

hey Beeza, the length of the bag body is 16". I don't think latigo would wet mould, but I haven't tried it. Let me know what you come up with! Thanks
