Filigree Belt with name

Recommended Posts

I am starting two belts for some young fellas. The would like their name on the back of the belt. Did I mention that they wanted it filigree around the letters to put some hair on piece, I guess. I am only tooling them (good thing for me again). I look in the Stohlman book and saw where he used a kinda large loose basketweave design to hold the letter and it was filigreed?

How do you do it? I was to see what other ways it can be done. Pictures would be great!

Appreciate it.

well, I finally completed the filigree belts after receiving some help from one of our local saddle makers. I also spoke to an old timer who makes primarily belts. He suggested a small set of wood carving tools (as I suggested on another post response). After he showed me how it worked, I decided to get my top secret set at my local Hobby Lobby for $4.99 and used them. Wow, what a difference.

I had to make two belts, for obivious newbie reasons, anyways, the first one was with a scapel and Xacto cutters. Not a good mix especially adding no experience. After getting the information and buying the tools and deploying my new secret weapon, the second one came out much better than my first attempt.

I ended up giving my first set of wood carving tools to my saddler friend for the help. I then went back to Hobby Lobby and purchased the bigger set for $9.

I tried to find a picture of these on the Hobby Lobby website, but failed. I did find a much like picture on ebay. Here it is. I will also post the ebay auction number since I am using the picture.
