Wallet finishing question and comments welcomed.

Recommended Posts

I did this wallet awhile back for myself. I am an EMT and I did the Star of Life on the back and the EMT on the front. I finished it with leather dye. A dark blue airbrushed in the center of the front and back and then airbrushed black around the edges. The blue on the front is wearing off but not the back and the black seems to be alright on the front. Can't figure out why the blue is wearing off the front but not the back. I don't care my wallet in my pocket like most. I just carry it. Can't figure out why. I do leave it in my car at times. Not sure if the heat has something to do with it. Any help would be great. Thanks to all.

Michael :thankyou:

Hmm... I've never experienced dye rubbing off like that, and I've made and worn my own wallets for about 5 years now. Dye (regardless of whether it's water-based or spirit-based) will penetrate leather to some degree, and shouldn't show much wear. Heat shouldn't have anything to do with it either. Do you know exactly what leather dye you used? Maybe that could help solve this mystery...

Tandy Pro Dye. Dk blue. Sprayed it through a Airbrush (Iwata) at about 25 psi. Not sure if this helps any. But can't figure out why the front is showing this and the back bearly is. Not sure.
