Sorry so long to reply. It was a great idea and I take no credit it was a creative pirate lass' concept -I just made it. I'll explain my dye 'technique' if you can call it that. 1. I dye it with the brown dye with lumps in it that I bought 2nd. hand and has no label. I do this thoroughly, using a cotton bud to get into the deeper tooling. (You may have trouble getting some old ratty dye so you may have to settle for dye without chunks.) 2. Using my index finger I flick off any dry vintage dye bogeys. 3. I may have to wipe them onto my jeans. 4. Then I use black over the top as sparingly as I can, I let the dye on the rag dry a bit before applying to avoid streaks. That's it. I'm hooked on this look and do nearly all my stuff this way. Thanks for the positive feedback. Catch you later.

Hi there, This was a barrel of laughs to make especially since pirates and leather just go together...not to mention rum. So it's a garter worn on your thigh that holds a hipflask. What the photo doesn't show is the pocket behind that holds a hipflask. I tried my best not to spend too long working on it whilst still doing a quality job but in the end I would have made it for $3 an hour. I usually charge more I think I misjudged fiddling time- the time spent just working out what shape to make it. Oh well, wont quit the day job just yet lucky for me it's all just for fun. Still learning so any pointers welcome. AAAAHHHG!(pirate noise)

Looks great, I should make myself one of those to keep my sketches and crazy doodles in rather than having them scattered over the place.

That looks unreal, I want one. Must get myself that backgrounding tool, been meaning to for about 2 years. The color really compliments the tooling.

I use beeswax with my ugly stick....this is a stick I picked up at the park which I cut a groove in and cleaned up. It's some kind of eucalypt and the groove works really well on my edges. I haven't seen this done but I'm sure I would have just reinvented the wheel. Works for me and the price was right.

Hi there Phil, I'm also in Hellbourne. Tis a great place just a bit cool this time of year.

I get all my Kangaroo Lacing and all my other leather skins at NSW Leather in Melbourne and found them to have great service and quality. I found the need to ring ahead as sometimes I need to wait a couple of weeks for them to get more stock of what I want. As for customs I used to import kung-fu weapons from China and found Australian customs very approachable and friendly as long as your up front and honest. I'd just email them and ask. Hi, I thought I'd make a nice sketch book/diary, a nice simple one but a bit more handmade and special than just a leather cover for a sketchbook bought at the Art Store. Went to the library and and got 2 bookbinding books and proceded to become overwhelmed by way too much information. Worthwhile and rewarding things are often difficult but I need to take some baby steps in bookbinding not learn the entire 1000 year old art of bookbinding (including $1000 of equipment!) Any references or tips anybody can spare would be much appreciated. Thanks Paul
