Iphone Case Question.

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I've seen a few belt-clip iphone case designs here and some of them seem to have snaps. Are there any chances that the back of the snap(inside the case) will scratch the phone? Is there a special way to install them?

I was thinking of sewing in a magnet flap but I worry that he thread on the inside of the case might scratch the screen :(

Am I just being paranoid?

Thanks!

I make a couple different styles of Iphone cases, some that the phone slips into, (no snaps, rivets, etc,...and cases that have a belt clip, and snap cover. Anytime I have to use snaps or rivets I line the case with pigskin after the hardware has been put in. And yes, these items will scratch the glass if not covered. Hope this helps. By the way, I've never found the magnets to work properly through the two layers of 2-3 ounce leather.

Thanks.

I only have 4oz leather and I was thinking about 1 layer only.

I thought I'd try to install something like this: http://leprevo.co.uk/photos/magnetic-catch-goods.html but now when you confirmed that the phone is likely to get scratched, I'd have to think of something else.

I can try skiving the leather and making 2 layers on the front side but I'll still have a stitch on the inside which is likely to leave scratches. I probably should just buy some 2oz leather as I'll need it for future projects anyway.

If you attach the snap before you glue the liner you should avoid any scratching possibility. You can also place a 1-2oz circle piece of leather glued over the snap stud to avoid the issue of your concern. The magnet, I have heard quite a bit of issues with interference. I typically use velcro or a line 20/24 snaps for my enclosures.
