Some new top hat prototypes I made trying to figure out the whole process.

Do you guys have recommendations on lining them? 2 are made of a 3oz leather with the brim being like 7 oz to maintain it's shape. I think they like the best, but they get a little tight and the brim is a little hard. The brown one on the right is the most comfortable, but has absolutely no shape since it's made out of a soft upholstery leather. It';s actually got a cardstock tube inside keeping it's shape, lol. Hmm, should have taken pictures of the inside to show here...

I should also give credit, that I took a lot of tips and info from here: http://tombanwell.blogspot.com/2010/01/steampunk-leather-top-hat-tutorial.html I didn't follow it verbatim, but it's the same basic idea.

Wow ! I am speechless . I have been to biker parties ,Brazillian samba parties ,biker birthday pool parties that lasted 3 days ,and I cant imagine what a party would be like with these hats . Ill bet that would be an eye opener for sure . Just guessing I bet you dont have many boring days . I have always had a big respect for imigination ,and with these hats the ball has gone out of the park for sure . Thanks for showing us your work and I did enjoy very much seeing this . I went to that site and enjoyed it as well . Thanks all around for making this interesting . Bill

Beautiful stuff! I dabble making tabletop steampunk gadgets and gizmos (short range time-travel machines, lamp guns, etc) in metal with just a bit of leather trim using leftovers, but you've inspired me to get cracking on some leather gear!
