  1. i seem to be getting a full / even coverage of the stamp with the vice but its not very deep. is this a casing / wetting issue?
  2. guys i need help with a new stamp i have, its a custom stamp i had made and measures 7cm by 3.5cm. im assuming this would have to be pressed into the leather, but when i done a trial on some scrap leather in my vice i didnt get a good impression. my question is how much pressure do you need on a very detailed stamp ? what is the process? how long do you leave it all clamped together? does anybody have pics of there press set up?
  3. id love a copy too. geoffrey@promains.com.au geoffsainsbury@hotmail.com

  7. good afternoon all i have been searching the internet with much gusto looking for a pattern for some baby booties. i have found many patterns for knitted booties but this is of little use to me. i have found a pattern for some felt booties but im not sure how how these will transfere to leather (i dont want them to hurt the little ones feet) does anyone have a pattern or a template that they have made leather booties from? and if so could i use it? this is a project i have wanted to do for along time, and now with one of the girls in my office expecting i now have an excuse. your help is much appreciated. geoff.
  8. hello all im in the middle of designing a carving pattern for a project im working on. it is a wild pigs/boars head that will eventually be used on a back quiver. my problem is im not sure how to put hair on my creature. is there a tool dedicated to this purpose? or is there a special technique using a knife that will give me the effect that im after? i am looking forward to your responses and id love to see some samples of work done using your technique. thank you geoff
  9. good morning i have come to you people in the hope of obtaining a picture or a pattern of a wild boar. im looking to carve this onto a back quiver that i am making, but would also like to use it on a book cover. i have seen very little leatherwork depicting a wild pig and would love to see some samples of work that you guys have done so i can asses if i have the ability to do such work (im only new to carving) thank you all in advance. geoff
  10. i am wanting to make a face mask to wear on my bike. i wear glasses all the time and find it very difficult to find gogles that fit over my glasses that do not look stupid. the alternative is to wear a full face helmet, which i do, but i wish to wear my open face helmets without wear of loosing sight due to wind in my eyes or loosing my glasses as the wind pulls them from my face. the mask that i have in mind will cover the face from forhead to neck, have goggles or a vision panel attached and both a mouth and nose hole. how to make this all work is where i need your help. i need to attach it to my head some how, it must be useable and i will have to be able to atach eather glass or plastic to the leather for the vision panel. i am hoping that some one has done this before and is will ing to help me through the process. and i am also hoping that somebody rides with a face mask like the one i have discribed and can tell me how it performs. thank you in advance geoff
  11. dave thank you for your instructional advise you have discribed what i thought was the way to go about this. the tip regarding the belly leather is a great one. im going to have a go at this very soon so i hope to be able to post pis of the completed product (or ill hide my head with embarasment) thank you again for your help geoff
  12. jim thank you for your reply the deerskin sounds like an awsome idea. my intension was to highlight my carving (however bas it is) with some decorative lacing. is this possable with the thin deerskin?
  13. hello, i need help i have purchased a round hip flask with the intention of covering it with a leather cover. i had hoped to carve a design and join it at the edges with some decorative lacing. the flask in question is about 3 inches in diameter about 3/4 inch wide. the edges of the flask are rounded. my questions are can this be done and have a quality product produced? will the leather have to be wetformed? should i cut the leather pieces measuring from the middle of the edges, carve the 2 pieces and lace together while still wet? what would be the best leather to use? i thank you in advance for any help that you can give me. maybe i should just fill it with rum and slowly empty it while i think. why did i want to cover this in the first place?? lol
