Tooling Drum Dyed Leather

Recommended Posts

Is it possible? How would you go about marking it? Will I need to touch up the dye?

I've been warned that dyeing black is a booger to keep from coming off, so I'm trying to keep from ruining someone's clothes.

'Nother bunch of newbie questions.

God Bless, Ray

Ray,

I use Wickett & Craig drum dyed leathers for most of my projects. Just case them and tool them like you would normally do for standard un-dyed veg. tan leather. Remember one thing; when cutting whether with a swivel knife or round knife, that the drum dyed leather tends to be a little tougher. Keep all of your knives very sharp.

The black drum dyed leather does bleed quite a bit when adding finish coats but once it is sealed, I have not had any issues with it.
