Vintage Leather Stamps Shop Made Out Of?

Recommended Posts

I purchased the stamps and tools from a saddle maker that had passed away. The stamps are pewter???? on small wood blocks and they show scenes such as calf roping, cutting etc. I feel sure he used them to stamp on belts. I am not going to use them so I am listing them on EBay and was wondering if anyone would know what material the actual detailed stamp might be made out of... It is gray like pewter and feels metallic. I can't figure out how to post pictures.

I found IPEU stamped on the side. International Photo Engravers Union circa 1904-1964 (researching the stamp on the side)

Bruce Johnson on these forums might have some knowledge of them. It would definately help to show pictures. When you click on reply choose more reply options in the left hand corner it will have a button choose file now find where your pictures are select the one you want then under the choose file it will have attach file or something like that. Can you post a link to your ebay posting?

This is just one of the stamps. There are 4-5 of each event in cutting, roping, barrel racing, racing, etc. They are really unique and I am sure I should keep and display them somehow, but my shop is already crammed full. The link to one of the EBay listings is item # 261484386513.

You might want to slow down a little on selling them, until you have a better idea of what exactly you have. I understand no room, believe me, but it would be a real shame to sell em to first come, and then find out you had a real treasure, I personally think they are quite unique, and wish i had a find like that. Just sayin'.

I have had a couple of them mounted on the wood blocks. One guy told me they were a magnesium alloy that printers use. They don't take pounding all that well but last a long time with a press.
