Purchasing Leather

Recommended Posts

I have always purchased my carving leather from the local Tandy outlet...they have moved and I was wondering if anyone has a "good" online ordering source? I figure everyone has their favorites..I just can't afford to go through the "trial and error" process..any suggestions would greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've tried others, but ....

Of course, if you have the money to pay for it and the space to store it, you just buy 20 sides at a time direct from H.O.

Springfield Leather sells Hermann Oak by the Sq Ft with a minimum of 2 Sq Ft. It is "B" grade but much better than anything I ever bought at Tandy. Very clean and tools and molds very nicely.

American Leather Direct sells some pretty good leather. Just bought and economy #1 grade side of skirting leather from them that I needed for a project. It is actually very nice. Nice color, thick, very, very few blismishs. This is the second time I have bought from them and both times I've been very pleased. Ordered late Friday around 4 PM. They shipped it Monday and I got it Tuesday. From Kentucky to PA.

Over the last couple years I've ordered from Springfield, ALD, and Thoroughbred Leather with success. Most comes from Thoroughbred these days.

I just had a very good first experience with Roger Folmar at http://www.rjfleather.com

Reasonable prices on first quality leather (has lesser grades if you want), great communication, fast and properly packaged shipping. I'll do business with him again.

No prices on his site, just email him with what you are looking for. I asked him for a few grade options with pricing and he got right back to me.
