  • How did you find leatherworker.net?
i was interested in the properties of leather and as they say, curiosity kills the cat !
  1. No worries, do show us some pictures pf your finished hand press soon! Happy crafting!!!
  2. I made one out of hardwood and an unused chopping block. A steel plate is drilled to the point at which the tool meets the arm. It's all about leverage. Cheers, Fred
  3. 200 Posts! God that will kill anyone doing it. I don't suppose plastic snaps will last as long as metal ones. I do like the Jig idea mentioned by Tree Reaper. I'm curious as well, is it possible that you could just use a blunt drill bit and literally 'crush' / 'squish' all the metal into a flat disk with the other half of the snap in place? So you could cut down one step instead of actually having to take it out and use a mallet. Seems like one would be able to make a 'super jig' of sorts with rows and rows of snap holders, attach it to the drill press and press them down on to a sanding belt. don't count me in though, just an idea... you may end up with a snap in yer' eye.
  4. How thin is thin? When you do trim them don't use pliers or you'll deform the post much like this ---> () Try to use a file/jewlers file to file them down till they're just right. Cheers, Fred
  5. Hi Dan, i've found it.... through my broken understanding of Cantonese/Mandarin, the user on Instagram stated that he bought it from Taobao (china's equivalent of eBay) Here's a link to what i've searched on TaoBao. http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.55.DVjeGw&id=38915871578&ns=1&abbucket=12#detail Here's another version: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.41.DVjeGw&id=42999710192&ns=1&abbucket=12#detail What you would like to type in the search box is: 边线器 Which translates to (Literal translation) 'Side Line Tool' and is pronounced as Bien Sian Ji. I've not bought from TaoBao before but perhaps i may give it a try and see how it goes. Cheers, Frederick Update: 押捻 in the first link is the one you are looking for, it comes in 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm and 5.0mm. 押 (Pronounced as "Ya") is to ''PRESS'' down, and as you would know the next would be the double pronged version which is under 溝捻 溝 (Pronounced as "Neah") is to "Pinch". If there's anything else, feel free to ask. Happy crafting!
  6. Try Knipschield custom knives, http://www.knipknives.com Terry will fix you up and even customize to your liking. I've got some of his knives and the nice thing about it is that it has a convex bevel this allowing more sensitive input as compared to a conventional bevel. Fred
