I make mostly holsters, but also a few belts and sheaths. I have been using Neat LAC and just got a gallon of WyoSHEEN to try too.

I have not checked the WyoSHEEN but MAN!! The neat lac REALLY smells horrible. I am sure it's not good to breath it.

Is there any finish that will work nice like Neat LAC but be safe to use when ventilation isn't as good as would be desired? I don't want to die from the fumes or anything! :-)

I'm hoping for a nice finish like neat lac... or maybe a little more Satin and not as glossy.

Thanks for your ideas.:)

Most finishes have volatile chemicals in them. Unless you're using and oil or wax, you're going to have chemicals and some need to allow for ventilation. I do understand that Minnesota in winter doesn't leave you with a lot of options.

About the best you can expect from any of the lacquers is a great finish and a good buzz. I've been using Deft (spray lacquer for wood) and have been very pleased with it. It dries very quickly, and smells just like Neat-lac (spray). If you haven't tried it yet, check out Leather Balm w/ Atom Wax. It gives a nice mellow finish w/o all the fumes. Or, if you like Resolene, mix up a little 50/50 Mop-n-Glo and water.
