Christmas Ornaments Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was wanting to know if anyone has some good patterns, any skill rate, for leather Christmas tree ornaments? I imagine a person could have a lot of fun making some, and I am sure that there are patterns out there, but I haven't been able to find any, or even any ideas - can someone help me out?

The Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal Nov/Dec 2007 issue has a pattern for an angel ornament and also leather cowboy boot Christmas stockings. Also, Tandy free pattern section has some holiday patterns, which might make neat leather Christmas cards or other decorations.

I've had good luck making ornaments using cookie cutters, both the plastic kind and the metal. Press the cutter into the leather, cut and paint. Back issues of Make it With Leather also has a few ornaments shown, if your lucky enough to find them.

Hi there, I would have NEVER thought of using cookie cutters as templates! That is a great idea - goes to show you how someone that is trained to think outside of the box so to speak didn't see what seems so obvious! I did order the back issue of Dec 07 Leather Crafters and Saddlers journal, and maybe they will have some in this years issue! Thank you for the thoughts......

Actually, I had one other question/thought - does anyone have any pictures of any that they have done that they could share? I would love to see some

If you go to the Tandy Leather Factory website, there is a free Jim Linnell pattern section, and he's got some great Christmas-y things up there.

I also got ideas from scrollsaw/woodworking designs. Just a way to have different mediums cross over

Here are a few I made up a couple of years ago. I hope the picture makes it in here as it's been awhile since I've posted pictures.

Here is a good way to use up some leather scraps:
