Incorrect Locations For New Threads

Recommended Posts

I'm not exactly sure how it's normally done, but I was under the impression that moderators were supposed to help facilitate orderliness by relocating posts that get made in incorrect sections. I have seen several new posts created to advertise things for sale that were not in the "stuff for sale" specific section.

I can understand some of the posts not being moved since there is a fair amount of overlap on the section. Say a post pertaining to something like a quiver being made not being moved if the topic of the post has to do with a pattern or maybe they had a question on how to achieve a certain tooling technique.

I also think that it's bad form to create an account and your first post is only to advertise what you put for sale on eBay. I can't see that those help the forum or community in any way. It just adds to the clutter. Maybe if they dropped it in the "for sale" section under a guest account, I don't know. I suppose this specific issue is more of a grey area and doesn't need to be addressed, despite it being a pet peeve of mine.

Maybe I'm too nit-picky, I just feel that the separation of sections is there specifically for the purpose of keeping the information gathered in a nice and orderly manner and that moderators are there to help in guiding us by giving us a smack upside the head when we make a mess and don't clean up after ourselves. Also to move posts to their proper location put out fires as needed.

shtoink, I've complained about advertising posts on the site before and Admin says to click the 'report' in case the Mods don't see it. One guy from China just posted his website of things for sale in leather and said he'd used ideas from the site to make them. I think there may have been a language barrier thing there when he was so proud he'd used our ideas and didn't realize we might not be happy about that. That wasn't really a grey area, but some of them are. A lot of people put their things in 'show off' instead of a particular place, myself included now that I think about it. I make guitar straps and put them on the main forum after I finish one instead of under the micro thread area. But not for sale and actually I use the critique my work more than show off because I don't think I'm so good I can't use the suggestions from people and really want feedback. And I use the regular thread on 'how do I do that' instead of the micro for tons of things and learn something new everyday from the diverse things listed there.

So now if someone just posts to sell something I either ignore it or hit report. If it's really one of our members that are just used to doing things a certain way I try and give feedback just as I'm doing here. I don't like people spamming my 'house' here but I'm less concerned about what room my friends want to sit in. Cheryl

We usually post new stuff in "Show Off" and then the mods sort the older posts into the proper catagories after a few weeks. If you see any inappropriate posts just click "report to mods" and one of us will delete/move/edit/ the post as needed.

HMMMMMMMMM Every post helps someone in some way ,a picture inspires ,shows a attachment or new to me technique of some kind. I do understand the "used" feeling that sucks for sure . Arriving like a tornado setting up shop with a for sale sign and leaving with out a by your leave is tacky at best. We are dealing with HUMANS and they are a bit tacky by nature with a whole host of bad manners . Until we get some off planet leather workers seems we are stuck with what we have . Good order is always nice ,that I support whole heartly . I have wondered many times why we dont work together . I am okay with giving a man a idea that puts food on his table. One day I am hoping the favor will be returned when I am in need . We will never live long enough to make everything there is to be made . Man once told me : A pie given to you by a friend will always be a bit sweeter than one you buy in the store . So it is with knowledge I believe . Coming here and planting a flag like claiming a foriegn land to set up a business is just plain funny .After doing a thousand flea markets do you think there is a new brand of human animal that I have not encountered ? The mean, desperate, greedy ,selfish ,arrogant, rude ,self absorbed , they are all out there . Capitalism is by its very nature is canniableistic so why the surprise ? At the end of the day does it really matter ? There are lots of really great people here making the leather journey like one long pilgrimage . My advise is to keep eyes and ears open take notes as good teachers arent into repeating themselves . All my best Bill
