Mobile Phone Lasts

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have had a few requests to make mobile phone cases and a few of them are iPhones. I don't own iPhones so have troubles with sizing.

Therefore I was wondering if anyone knew of a stockist of lasts. Then I can not only do cases but wet moulding etc.

I can't make them myself as I am absolutely and completely hopeless at Wood working.

Cheers

Shags

I've made them out of leather, all you need is the measurements.

I just made one from a leftover plank of laminate flooring - turns out the bit I had was perfect thickness for iPhone 5! One cut was all it needed.

Not sure where you live but if you have an Ikea they sell a plastic chopping board that is nearly the exact thickness of the Iphone 5 , i bought one and cut it to the size made a perfect dummy phone there was enough left for Iphone 4 just needed to add a bit of thickness to it .

there are many ways to this solution.

at one time, you could buy modeling clay and bake it to harden it.

there is the plaster of paris approach. probably not the more durable.

then there is a 2 part resin approach.

also, there are as others have said too.

if you search for plastic shops in your area, they could probably "cut" to size for you and if you have some sandpaper/files/rasps, you could work on the edges yourself. My local plastic shop will charge you for 2nd cut. first one is free and if you want a finished product they will do that for you too for a fee.

also, Lowes/Home Depot will cut some wood for you too. usually the same setup. First one free and the second one 5 bucks or something like that.
