  1. Thanks for the replies. I'm going to make a template and give that a try. Randy
  2. No I just try to go slow.
  3. So I haven't made to many items so far and seem to always have huge issues with freehand stictch grooving. So basically I have a stitch line that curves. Is there some magic to making a groove to follow that line. I have a Tandy freehand groover ( basically a pencil with a groover at the bottom) and its almost impossible to see to follow the line. The second thing is once I have the groove what technique should I be using to groove the other side. I have tried drilling the stitch holes then try to groove after and it dosen't work. Well not for me. The whole thing is making me crazy and ruining many chunks of leather. Any tips ... please. Randy
  4. They are beautiful. I have a question about pattern layout. I just started and one the the guys suggested I get my stitching closer to the gun. After you trace around the gun with your pencil how far away would you start your stitching ? ! left about a half an inch from the pencil line. Thanks Randy
  5. My first 2 try's at leather work. I did have a few problems mostly with gouging the bottom of the holsters. I have been using a number 58 drill bit after cutting the line then flipping over and trying to do the same on the bottom . But it is very difficult trying to follow those holes and the results are umm less than desirable. I read about using an awl and wondered if this was a better way to go ? I have bought this Awl but not to sure what I should be using with and what size either these or these. I thought the stitching awl was the way to go but not sure. The burnishing is an issue to I just used a wood dowel in my drill press with some bees wax on it but I think my surface prep was a bit slack (I just sanded it with 220 grit). Anyway any constructive criticism on both the leather work and the holsters .
