I couldn't use it sitting down but that's just me, I'd think you'd be more likely to slip up and need a seamstress to sew you up. Maybe if it's light leather you'd be allright, but I doubt one could cut saddle skirting with any accuracy sitting down. A seated position would definately limit your strength to what your arms were capable of instead of your whole body. I built a cutting table that's some taller than usual bench heighth to make it more comfortable that also seemed to make it easier. I gotta' ask why you'd want to ?

Sitting down to cut up strap goods or using a head knife to skive a buckle end would work but for cutting out large components standing will give you more power and control. I'm with Jim, why would you want to?

Hi Navy,

I sit sometimes when working on a low table, however, I built my benches rather high and at what I consider a perfect height for standing. You have a much greater usable reach while standing. I prefer my benches to be a little above waist height and my work tables at waist height, of course it makes them uncomfortable for 98% of the population, which is ok with me, the kids and wife never used them, except son who is now 3" taller than me.
