Floral Breast Collar With Withers Strap

Recommended Posts

Another order out the door. This is a different type breast collar than what I've ever done in the past. I'd never had a customer want one with a withers strap. This customer was also trying to match the color of her saddle. She sent several pics of the saddle, and I sure hope I got close. At any rate, take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks for looking, and blessings to all.

Looks really good I like how the background of your tooling is much darker it makes your work really stand out did you sew by hand or with a machine can't really see the sewing picture too small. Would you mind posting closer pics. Thank you!

If she's happy that's what matters but in the future these suggestions:

1) Make the withers strap narrower and adjustable,

2) Modify the pattern to eliminate the little bulge at the top of the center ring and make the bottom more 'C' shaped to make the collar space wider where the neck ties into chest and then the side will run straight up the top of the shoulder,

3) Also consider tunnel loops on withers strap to keep strap end from flopping downhill and ending up in the way of reins, ropes etc.

Royal...thanks for the compliments. I do almost all of my sewing with a machine. Sorry I don't have any close up shots, and the order is already shipped.

Ol....I understand what you mean about adjustable withers straps. I was going off a picture she sent, and the pictures didn't appear to have any adjustment. I think I get what you're saying about the bulge at the top of the ring. You're referring to the pieces that go around the horse's chest correct? If so, then I see what you mean. Not sure I know what you mean by the tunnel loops on the withers strap though. The straps that connect to the D's have another keeper besides the buckle keeper, but I just didn't thread them through. I was in a hurry to get the pics and get the order shipped before I headed out of town. I certainly do appreciate your input though. Where in WY are you?

Last ? first: Rawlins

Second ? yes

Next point: Tunnel loops, look at pics of better work horse & buggy bridles. They will have tunnel loops on the cheeks and often the backbands and sometimes even the belly bands on the body of the harness. Their use and function is to prevent strap ends from interfering with lines, ropes, etc. The flank cinch loops on a western saddle are a type of tunnel loop. Then there is always pictures of old timey martingales.

And the tooling and finish is quite good

Wow - this is just beautiful! Once I get the basics down I'm going to start making tack for my ponies; I can only hope it will be half as fancy and nice!
