I know that this is an old post but out of curiosity, how are lasers for cutting out leather? Does it char and darken the edges of the leather? Yes, it will char, but it can be removed by soaking and cleaning, sanding or burnishing. Thinner leathers have less char/burn since the laser can move faster. I am interested in using a laser cutter to cut patterns out since it basically would let me quickly and precisely prototype new patterns.
