Maul And Stamps

Recommended Posts

Here is a maul and a few stamps that I recently finished. Candace bought me a wood lathe for Christmas and I've been tryin to wear it out buy building tool handles and stamp mauls. I am not offering them for sale, just makin a few for friends. Same goes for the stamp tools, I don't make many to sell and these are trade goods that are already traded.tools002.JPG

Elton, that's a nice looking maul. It looks like it has a leather washer handle on it. Did you turn it on you lathe with the wood tools or did you sand it to shape on the lathe ? Nice job how ever ya did it. I like you tooling tools to.

Looks good Elton. Nice taper to the maul, and the stamps look good. He ought to like that wiggler.

John, yeah it's a traditional leather washer handle and I used normal wood lathe tools to shape it then sanded it right down to 600 grit and burnished it just like the edges on veg tan.

Bruce, the wiggler is 1 1/8 inch long...I hope he likes it.

Thank you both for your kind comments.

Elton,

That's certainly a nice maul. The stamping tools look nice as well. Turning can develop into a nasty habit as well. You got a great Christmas present and made very good use of it.

Regards,

Ben

Elton

I have to agree with everyone, A tool maker is born! Nice work. What size wood lathe are you using there? and what brand?

Happy tool making
