  1. Thanks a lot Dan, I didn't realize I could use a sander and I already have one. So that's cool!
  2. That's what I figured, I just have never skived and would rather not buy another tool! but alas I really want to make this
  3. So I saw this wallet by Portel and wanted to recreate it for myself. I got 2-3 oz veg tan for the main body, and then 1oz pigskin for the outer layer. I figured that's what they were using but when I dyed it, it comes out a different color. Can anyone help me with identifying the leather they used for the card holder?? I am frustrated. I mean the thin outside pocket, the inner I have recreated with my 2-3oz veg from springfield
  4. I want a machine for wallets that isn't going to run me 1k, so I found this machine http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rex-607Z-Portable-Walking-Foot-Sewing-Machine-Leather-Upholstery-/271278718252?_trksid=p2054897.l4276 What do you guys think? Any other recommendations? I've heard a table sewing machine is best for wallets but theyre all out of my price range
  5. No that sounds great! I just want it looking similar to that wallet I suppose. As long as it's thinner, do you have a link?
  6. Hi guys I wanted to stamp leather with ink and seal it with mink/neatsfoot oil. Does that work? I don't want to pay 37 bucks for a custom ink stamp and not have it work! Here is the site I found if anyones interested http://www.thestampmaker.com/Departments/Upload-Your-Own-Design.aspx
  7. hi guys, saw this thread. I'm trying to imitate this portel wallet they only make them for iphones so my htc one I measured it out and I have the bulk of it with 2-3oz springfield veg tan but I cant find any liners for those pockets. They have these wallets in all different colors so they must be using veg tan but look how thin that is! I couldn't get springfield to skive me some 1oz either. any help/ideas?
  8. Hi guys, I'm trying to create a couple wallets that are identical so I followed a Tandy tutorial and made a couple template pieces with leather after getting the dimensions I wanted. Problem is Even when I follow the shape with my xacto I am not cutting it out properly the same. So I was wondering how you guys do it? Maybe I could shape a piece of metal and use it as a cookie cutter??
  9. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leathercraft-Tools-Thickness-Gauge-Tester-Leather-Craft-Tool-Handmade-0-10mm-/331026191539?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d12b2d4b3 this is 13 bucks for a leather gauge, but it measures in millimeters I guess? Not sure how you'd convert that to Oz's off the top of your head.
  10. sorry http://i.imgur.com/5FtADYQ.png < that's it I thought I uploaded it to here. and yes Ferg thank you ^_^ I just want to get pointed int he right direction!
  11. I did some research and found this post that I linked to as an image below. So as I understand it, I buy some inks a heat press and a protective coating correct? Can anyone point me in the right direction, I'm a little overwhelmed trying to find the inks/coating and not sure if it'd even work. I did find a cheap heat press on ebay though! I would plan to do it on cowhide 2oz btw, if that matters ^_^
