  1. I have a working Singer 31-15 industrial sewing machine for sale. Head only. Industrial sewing table available (for additional $100), but I ditched the clutch motor, so no motor. Pick up only. Here's the craiglist posting. https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/atq/5264750524.html
  2. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/atq/4446860042.html Above is my CL ad for a 29K51. I am selling this working and in good condition beauty for $500 firm. It is available only to people who can pick it up in Hastings, MN
  3. I used Oak Galls (quercus garryana), Hemlock bark, and some Chestnut extract. No dyes were used.
  4. I'm curious. What would you consider a fair price? $25 sq. ft. is the high standard for deer brain tan buckskin, and bark tan done by hand (along with getting most of the extracts from the woods, etc.) is no less easy.
  5. Thanks. Well the instructions are pretty long to do good stuff. Here's a guide to get you started. It is a lot of work that's for sure. http://braintan.com/barktan/1basics.htm
  6. Hi Everyone, I wanted to share some bark tan deer hides I have been working on. Tell me what you think! If you're interested in picking them up I have them for sale on my Etsy store (and more pictures too). And I hope it's OK I'm just showing a hide and not a made item. It took me a long time to figure out how to tan hides and now I am on to the task of learning how to make stuff out of them. Get them before I figure it out! Thanks, Dennis
  7. I wondering if I can get an offset table (and how much) for my singer 29K patcher, like the ones that usually come with the modern clones of the patcher. I know Ferg made a beautiful table for his patcher, but I'm not that crafty (yet). Any help would be great. Thanks!
  8. Wow, this 29-4 setup is really inspirational. I have a 29K that I need to mount somehow and this seems like a great way to go! Quick questions: how is the 4" square pipe attached to the 1/4" steel plates at the end if they are not welded? Did the square pipe come like that? Where did you get it?
  9. Does anyone have an explanation for why this book is so expensive now? (the less expensive $28 version is the previous edition which I can get at my library). http://www.amazon.com/Leatherworking-Handbook-Illustrated-Sourcebook-Techniques/dp/1844034747/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_t_1_D61S I sadly lost my copy and need it bad...but I'm not spending that much just for a book! Dennis
  10. OR, check out Laughing Crowe/Jason Hovatter's workshops. He teaches moccasin classes similar to the style you did on your welted moccasin.
  11. Patti, These are not exactly close but check out Shoe School in Port Townsend, WA and DW Frommer II's School of Western Bootmaking in Redmond, OR. I recommend the second one over the first.
  12. I am looking for a long apprenticeship with a master shoemaker in the Olympia, WA/Puget Sound area. I have considered a short stint with a shoemaker--as many short classes are offered in the area--and yet I don't think I would learn all I need to know in such a short time (typically 5-21 days). I don't know anyone who can master such a complex craft in such a short period without additional support--at least I can't. I have many of my own tools and two industrial singers already (31-15 and 29K) and a copy of Golding...I am ready to go! I am so dedicated and serious student I have even started making my own leather and have successfully tanned (and sold) several bark tan and brain tan sheep and deer hides, some of which I butchered myself. My goal is to make the bulk of the materials of the shoes I design and stitch together myself. (I recently made my own dye with black walnut and oak galls). If you can help me with my goals let me know! coraxcorvid at gmail.com Thanks, Dennis
  13. I'm looking for a treadle table for my 29K51. Sewing with one hand is hard! Thanks, Dennis coraxcorvid at gmail dot com
