Benchtop die holder: good product for someone to manufacture

Recommended Posts

I've needed to find a more efficient way to set my tubular rivets, so I splurged on this benchtop die holder from OTB, $30. This would be a nice little product for someone to manufacture. I bet the actual die holder can be bought prefacricated. Then all that would have to be done is to machine the steel insert to the specified diameter.

wonder if a barbell clamp would work as a starting point?

That would be really easy to make. Do the shanks on the dies vary? If not then the base could be made from one piece instead of having a bushing in it. Steel is less expensive than aluminum. Even with a bushing in it , it would still be easy to make. They could also be done by fabrication as opposed to machining.

I am a tool maker for a large screw machine shop, and used to own a small machine and fab shop back in CA.

Ed - does this give you a good set? Are you finding it to be more efficient?
