Staff were helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable and genuinely seemed most interested in helping me find (or figure out) what I needed... rather than upselling for a bigger sale. It only makes sense to me to make the customer feel wanted and satisfied, so that they will return to buy from them again. Its just smart business. I made an order through Siegel of California, and ordered a bunch of Crown tools which they did not have but a few of the ones I ordered. So I got charged a minimum order charge of $20, when I called to see if I could do something about the charge the lady that answered the phone said she was sorry but could do nothing about it. About five minutes went by and the owner called me up and said dont worry the charge has been taken off your bill, because its not your fault that we did not have what you ordered. Windom Leather Report post Posted September 28, 2009 I like them too. That is a great store. Seems like everytime I make it down to Portland I find an excuse to stop in. $$hobby Report post Posted September 29, 2009 im glad they were helpful. i find them to be alot of help. i use them alot and im not sure if you made it up to the tack department. that old building just screams history. fyi, there is a "leatherfactory" outlet over near PDX if youre in the area. they were/are offering some clinics too. Will, $Hobby, and Elliot - Yes, half the fun of shopping there is just going into that building! I have gone over the TLF also, and the folks there have been great, but IMHO the leather just can't compete quality-wise. I also order online, and sometimes I can get leather cheaper that way, but nothing beats being able to see and feel it yourself. Speaking of which, I went back to Oregon Leather yesterday, as they had some pretty smoke-colored chap leather that caught my eye last time but I didn't have time to really look at. The fellow there (whose name I didn't get but has a charming accent and is really great to work with) showed me some 5-6 oz brown oiltan that had just come in. WOW!! I came home with some, and can't wait to get started on it. They didn't have a lot of it - so if you're interested, I'd recommend going soon.
