Fortuna 12" Bandknife Problems

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone has some experience with a Fortuna 12" band splitter? I just bought it a month ago and I'm having trouble making it work properly. Most of the time when I put a piece of say 6" x 7" 4 oz leather and I want to make it 2 oz the splitting is uneven or the machine "eats" part of the piece. Please help! Thank you.

My first guess would be the condition of the cutting edge. That looks more like it's grabbing and tearing than cutting.

We had a power splitter at college & was taught to thin the leather gradually in stages unless you were only taking a small amout off but I would agree with shtoink & check the blade.

Did you get your splitter working. I put a new blade on mine and it is doing the same thing?

looks like horizontal blade adjustment problem. Find some gash leather the thickness you want to thin then adjust the blade contour and feed. check then readjust.

What is the blade contour, and are you referring to the roller feed?
