I have switched back from spirit dies to eco-flo stains for my current projects and have been spraying them with satin sheen but the stain is not water resistant and comes off when I check them with a little water on a paper towel. What kind of finish should I be using? I tried carnuba wax and Skidmore's and it didn't help.

Thanks, Steve

The two products I've gotten the best results from are:

- Bee Natural Leather Finish

- Kiwi Neutral shoe polish

These two are easy to apply to water-based dyes, and provide very good protection from moisture. I have tried the carnauba cream, but had problems applying it and it didn't protect as well as the others.

Tan-kote applies easily to water-based dyes, but doesn't protect as well as a wax finish. (I still use it to mix with my antique.)

Thanks Kate I will give those a try. What's strange is the Skidemore's should work, it has Bee's wax in it. Maybe I need to let it set longer and give it two coats.

I've never tried Skidmore's. How are you applying it?

Kate

With a cloth. I'm using the Skidmore's conditioner, not the waterproofing that's almost all bee's wax.

Kate,

I ordered some Bee Natural Finish, it should be here in a couple days. How do you apply it? I was thinking about spraying it like I do with Satin Sheen.

I spray it on full-strength with a single-action sprayer, and that works great.

I apply multiple (usually 3) light coats, with about 5 minutes between each coat, then let it sit for an hour or two.

Lightly buff with a soft cloth, then watch it glow!

Oh - lol, that might be why it doesn't work too well. I'm going to have to try the waterproofing one of these days...

Thanks for the info. That's exactly how I will do it then.

The Skidmore's I have says that it will built up waterproofing with repeat applications. I guess I didn't repeat it enough.
