I like the design, were the 2 types of leather more or less weaves to create it?

Yes, I cut strips of leather about 3/8" and weave them over and under the center piece, glueing each piece as I go along. Then I glue the entire piece onto a larger piece of black thin leather, then fold the black over the edge's and sew.
