I think every tooler should study "Sheridan Style Carving" by Bob Likewise. It contains a world of information that is basic for doing any floral carving. It is not just for Sheridan style carving. There is great instruction by Bill Gardner and great photo examples of work by the Masters. I refer to mine frequently.

Tandy has several of the old stamping books you can purchase as "Ebook" and print out what you want. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/home/ebooks/ebooks.aspx I've bought a couple this way and they are really nice to have. Enjoy the stamping!

I know this is an older post but.....I bought the Tandy eBook Basket Weave Primer and was terribly disappointed. It felt more like a scam than a purchase! The only instructional info was a very basic 3 step description on drawing a diagonal line to start and angled basketweave. The other 20+ pages were just old style pictures of BW samples and the tools used to make them. There are some very cool examples in there that I would like to try, one was a five section round braid, but there's no clue as to how to even get started!

I decided to buy a couple of the stamps, X505 and X505-2, used for one of the examples, but when I got to the local Tandy store, one of the tools apparently is no longer available. The store manager had never even heard of it! Without the reverse BW tool there's no way to get that particular pattern.

So lesson learned....don't buy eBooks from Tandy!

Good videos can be purchased at hidcrafter,.... or join the iilg and check them out of the library for close to free. Now somebody else check in if this is wwrong pslg dot.something has a checkout library. Its Pugent Sound Leather Guild, I think.

Your choice. But go to iilg anyway and PsLg for that matter.

Good luck with those new tools, your gonna like them.

I actually thought Tandy's books were a big help, but I was a complete novice when I purchased them--if you buy these books (even the ebooks) and aren't satisfied, talk to the store manager. A friend of mine got store credit on the purchase of an ebook he already had in hard copy and didn't realize until too late.

On the subject of stamping (as distinct from carving) I also have Paul's books on stamping, and recommend them highly. The big plus is that he provides instruction on how to create your own designs. There is also a lot of useful content on stamping designs in the Creative Belt Stamping series, too.

I have found some useful information in some of Tandy's books, too, but for whatever my opinion is worth, I think Paul's books give the most thorough treatment of the subject.
