  • How did you find leatherworker.net?
    a gun forum
  1. So, after making one for my P6, a co-worker wanted one for his Glock 23. I modified the design after getting some good feedback from the first one and added more clearance around the grip, as well as moulding in a sight channel for the sights. Let me know what yall think...and yes I know I need a better camera
  2. Thanks, you do some great work, so that makes me feel good about it. I do think that on the next one for my co-worker, I am going to cut the edge under the grip at more of a curve instead of a diagonal line to increase clearance for the grip...I can get a full grip on it, but some others on another forum I posted pics on said it looked close....so maybe I'll curve it like on the photo Lobo attached. Thanks, Justin
  3. No hi-jack at all, thanks for posting pics of your P6 holster! One thing I really liked about this design which I think you or someone else in one of your threads pointed out that this design with the tunnel on the rear allows your belt to go right back into position just as tight as before, as opposed to a standard pancake that you have to loosen your belt....I found this to be true and it was very comfortable all weekend. Thanks, Justin
  4. So I was going camping this past weekend and wanted to take my Sig P6, but did not have a holster for it, so I whipped this one out last wednesday and thursday nights so I could have it for friday night. I wanted to try something with a welt (never done one before) and really liked Lobo's design, so I thought I'd give it a try. I think this one is my best holster so far, I've made 6 I think. I know the edges are not done properly as I was in a hurry and it was for me, not for someone else. I have a guy in my office that is wanting me to make him one the same design for his G23 (which oddly fits almost exactly in this one save for the sweat shield....so what should I work on improving for his (other than the obvious edges)? sorry for the crappy cell phone pics....and also note, I like my holsters to look old, so I used what some would consider a "scrap" piece, because it has some defects and creaces in it, and I dye it by hand with a rag so there are some uneven spots, same with the Neatsfoot oil I put on it.
  5. looks very nice....hopefully my next one will turn out half as nice.
  6. Lobo posted some good photos during construction of one of his newest holsters using a welt, it provides a good example and visual of what it is, at least for me anyway;) http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=20043
  7. looks very nice, thanks for the pics of the welt leather during the construction phase! It sure makes it easier to visualize how it works now (at least to a beginner like me) Justin
  8. thank you for your input and you are right on about he slot, the one I made for his brother's sigma wrapped further and it did hold tighter to the body. Thanks, Justin
  9. Thank you for the suggestions! I was very worried about the slot and tunnel not lining up, however I test fitted it with my belt and the owners belt to make sure it would work, granted neither of us have stiff gun belts. It was defiantly a design flaw.....I got caught up in worrying about creating clearance for the mag release and did not follow may pattern enough. As for the grip, I think you are right on the money there, this one is a improvement over my last one, so maybe the next one will be better lol (hopefully). I'll have to try the dowel rod for sight clearance, I've got leftovers from making my burnishing tool. Thanks for the insight. Justin
  10. Ok, so here is the third and hopefully final (for a while anyway) small of back holster made for my cousins. My edges are better than the last, still need work though. I personally think my stitching pattern is too busy in the middle, but it was a cover up for a miss placed (aka I zoned out) punch. I stained it with fiebings dark brown and sealed it with atomic wax. Before you say anything about the un-even dye job and the dark imperfection spots, I did that on purpose because I like them to look old.....ever see that kid at school who hated his new white shoes and purposely got them dirty cause he didn't like them to look new? yea, that was me Justin
  11. holster looks very nice....if you don't mind me asking, What is a welted seam?
  12. Ok, so here is the follow up for my cousin, I followed the pattern of that Galco posted above for reference. I also tried some different thing like using a nice adhesive to hold the holster together during construction. This is also the first holster I built with best slots and a tunnel. I made the tunnel to wrap around the bend of the holster to make sure the holster is not loose on the belt and holds very tight to the body, it also seems to help with retention. I was just worried about the gun falling out with this design with such a steep cant. I am happier with the edges but there is still alot of room for improvement. I'll guess I'll get another try with this design for his brothers walther knock-off. here it is, what should I work on now?
  13. well he liked that one well enough to have me make him another one, but this time I convinced him that he didn't need clips and showed him the above pic and he wants one like that. And his brother wants one as well for his Walther knock-off....so I'll post those up as well when I get them made up. I'm also going to spend more time making a pattern on this one so hopefully I can improve my quality. THanks, Justin
  14. This is the third holster I've built and the first one for someone else. My cousin wanted one, but had some very specific criteria, such as Small of Back, Out Side Waistband, and with clips for easy removal. I was worried about the clips and making it a stable tight to the body fit, but solved that by making slits in the leather to slide the clip down inbetween the two pieces and putting a bolt through all three pieces (two layers leather and clip). I also made slits in both sides so that the clips could be reversed so that it could be worn IWB if he so desires. Also with the clips reversed it could be worn facing the other direction on the right hip. What I've learned is that I need to do more work on the pattern/design. I seem to brainstorm and design on the fly and I think if I designed the pattern first my quality would be better. Also, I have been cutting the leather with sheers and did for about half of this project and then changed to using a razor blade with multiple passes. Also, I need alot of help on my edges. I have never burnished anything before and it shows. If I had more time to work on this project I think I could make them better, but with limited time to get it done (cousin's b-day is tomorrow). If you have any suggestions or critique or ideas for how to improve and what to improve please let me know. Thanks
  15. Very nice holster Dwight. Twin Oaks, I was asking more specifically for pictures of the holster of the Bersa. I just recently picked up a FEG PA63 which is a Hungarian knock off of a PPK much like the bersa. I'm getting it ready for CCW and was looking for ideas for holsters for it, I built one for my 1911, its just a little too big for sitting in my office chair all day. Thanks, Justin
