  1. The tension assembly and timing was the culprit. Thanks for the help everyone!
  2. I haven't had a chance to work on it yet, preparing for the holiday. Hopefully in the next day or so. I'm going to go through all the adjustments again... I've found there are some manuals that are more detailed than others - different (updated?) factory manuals for the same machine.
  3. Problem found!! Now how to solve? All of you were right - I set up the machine again and have it sewing decent through upholstery and single webbing, but is still jamming on 3 layers of scuba webbing. It appears the takeup lever is running out of upstroke before the top thread can be pulled all the way and released from the bobbin carrier and hook. So then the hook still has the first loop of top thread as it's going for another round and it snowballs from there...
  4. Thanks for the info! I had went through and set everything by the 1245 manual and still had trouble. Thinking I still had something slightly off by being a different model, I had a tech come out but he couldn't fix it either. I'll go through the 1245 manual once more and double check everything.
  5. I've tried adjusting the tensions, but I don't think it's the problem - the stiching looks like there's something going on instead of the normal loop stitching. Are you familiar with the procedure for adjusting the hook timing?
  6. My machine has been sewing like a dream up until recently after a bad jam. The stitches look decent on top, but if I reverse or speed up the underside looks braided. I cleaned out under the bobbin carrier, changed and adjusted the needle. Could it be out of time? Any ideas?
  7. Re-rooned the piece this weekend using this method and it's a 100 times better!!!! Thank you very much!! Would it hurt to repeat the process again for an even deeper black? Should the tea soak be standard practice in the process or only on stubborn pieces?
  8. Weird, the roon has been marinating for about 4 months. It had been stored in an attached garage - maybe that was it. I suspect there's no way to save this piece?
  9. I tried Roon for the first time on some 8 oz. and got a gray/dry looking finish that I haven't been able to get rid of yet. I did a 10 second in, 10 out, in, out, in, out. Let sit for 10 mins, then did about a 10 second bs wash, then rinse in tap water. 5 mins later oiled with pure neatsfoot oil - it was beautiful. Fast forward 18 hours, it now looks grayish-dry looking. I re-oiled it and returns the deep black finish but lasts until the oil soaks in. I've put 5 coats of the oil and let some sit without wiping off. It's a little better but won't stay deep black. Did I do something else wrong?
  10. I'm thinking of building a jackshaft reducer system for my machine. I see most reducer pulleys are 3:1. Would there be any problem going with 4:1 or even higher? Would there be useful benefit to this ratio?
