Wrapping A Front Cowling?

After a friend of mine saw the Stingray/Leather bike I did, he wants me to wrap the cowling on his Harley in leather. My 'ray bike has been a fair weather ONLY/show bike. This guy wants to ride his cross country. He does not want it to be a cover rather a permanent fixture on his bike...

Anyone ever done this?

My main concern is durability...
