Screws for screwback conchos

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a source for the screws that screw on to the screwback conchos... they are the ones with the flat, wide heads, NOT the ones with the tiny heads that turn screwback conchos into line 24 snaps. I purchased several packets of tandy's discontinued leather-insert conchos & many of the screws are missing. I only need a dozen, maybe a dozen & a half, at the most, so I don't need a source with a large quantity minimum and/or a large shipping charge. Is the thread 8-32 or 8-24 or is it some weird thread found only in Tandylonia? :helpsmilie:

Thanks for any help on this.

It all depends on the conchos. The standard Chicago screw posts are 8/32 that I get. Some of the Tandy conchos I used to use were metric too and I needed longer screws than were provided - they were 4 mm. I got some conchos that the screws were smaller but the ones provided were long enough. Maybe 3mm? Most of the bigger hardware stores carry the metrics. I found some of screw part of the Chicago screws with the flat thin heads at Orchard Supply Hardware. They are a big hardware kind of store out here - subsidiary of Sears now. The screws were in the oddball fastener/fittings drawers. They had them in some major lengths too. In a pinch I have also use drawer pull screws, the heads are a little flatter than normal machine screws, not as flat as Chicago screws are regularly though. They come in some really good lengths too.

PM me your address, I'll throw a handful in an envelope.

I use a lot of conchos, but I have to use aftermarket screws due to the thickness of the pieces I'm working with. I probably throw a few dozen screws a year in the trash. I know I've got a container with 20 or so around.

I have a few thousand of them in various sizes in the stndard 8-32 thread. I'll be glad to send some. What length do you need?

If you need the odd sizes, Ohio Travel Bag sells an assortment with various sizes... $5-8.

Thank you, Keith, but Michael Sheldon is already sending me some. Thanks for the offer, though. It is appreciated. I only need no more than a dozen & a half.

I also have a handful left over from coverting conchos to snaps. If you want 'em, you can have 'em...just tell me where to send them. I don't have many, but you're welcome to what I have. (I never throw anything away)

What I need are some screws that are a bit longer than the "conversion" screws to make snaps. I've run into a couple projects where the smaller screw just won't reach the concho well enough to get a grip.

Any ideas?
