I finished this gun belt, sewed it on my new Cobra 4. It is 72" to the middle hole. I didn't put enough thread on the bobbin, so I ran out during the stitching.

Too funny. I did that on my last belt as well. Just started stitching from the same hole and can't even tell.

The biggest I've done is a 62" to middle hole, which makes it 71 from end to end. I used a Tippmann Boss. Next time I'll borrow your machine :)

I miscalculated how much was on the bobbin, but I believe it would have held enough to do the job, as long as I put as much on it as possible.

Thanks, I started putting money down on the boss and should pay it off shortly. Just wanted to make sure it can handle the big jobs like that. So far the longest belt I made was 65 inches to center hole. Took 2 hours to punch the holes and 3 to hand stitch. Looked good, but what a chore. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Do the bobbins on the tippmann and cobra hold enough thread for that long of a run, or did you just forget to check how much was on the bobbin first?

Thanks, Joey

I can get two rows of stitching around a size 45" belt with one bobbin, so one around a size 75 should should be no problem.

The longest belt order I have received was 2 belts for 60" waist, about 70" overall strap length. My helper swears that it took her a month to burnish the edges!

When I start doing belts I usually put a fresh bobbin in the Cobra Class 4, and that will complete two belts of moderate lengths (single stitch-line all around), thus avoiding bobbin changes in the middle of a job as much as possible. Each belt will take about 7 - 10 minutes for stitching. At 6 stitches per inch a 40" belt requires about 400 stitches (I amuse myself by counting as I go, which also helps me to stay focused on the work).

I've done quite a few with the fancy "lazy stitch" pattern, which takes about a half-hour to lay out and stitch. It also doubles the amount of stitching involved. I like the look.

One of the nice features of the Cobra Class 4 is the automatic bobbin winder, which will wind a bobbin completely at a rate considerably faster than the bobbin in use is emptied. My machine came with 4 bobbins, so I always have a couple ready to go. When I have a partially used bobbin it can be saved for use on smaller projects.

This one is a 56 or 58, . . . don't remember for sure, . . . but that is why we have Tim Horton's close by, . . . get to the tongue, . . . lay her down, . . . do a doughnut and coffee, . . . ready for the next one :Lighten:

Notice in my hand, . . . one side is stitched, . . . we're doing the other side.

May God bless,

Dwight
