Cantle Back Leather?

Recommended Posts

I am building a saddle with a Cheyenne roll. I've got the cantle back on but one side, close to the cantle point, the leather turns into to pretty fleshy junky leather. Not raggy but not very firm...?

I'm wondering if after I put the filler, seat, and binding on will the roll be firm enough and hold its shape?

When finished you are going to have three thicknesses of leather plus 2 more from the cantle binding so it doesn't take a lot to be enough here. I think where you are would be alright as long as the grain side of the piece doesn't have stretch marks and wrinkles on it.
