Leather Tools In Paris - Edge Glazing Tool - Fileteuse

Recommended Posts

hi all

Will be in paris within couple of weeks so why not to by some french tools.

I will buying the edge glazing tool (fileteuse manuele) from mando as some others did. But i don't really understand why the price difference between the single and double tool is so high.

The one with the single handle cost 170 euro and the double one is 470 euro. So why should i buy the double instead of buying two single handle units?

Also i have asked mando about the beraud paint, but they do not carry it. They are selling another brand, they call it varnish 600 and it is around 18 euro for 1 litre.

They talled me it is currently used by louis vouitton, goyard and on some hermes products. I know that hermes uses mostly stahl paint but i couldnt find any retailer for it.

Did anyone used the paint from mando?

Also i would like to purchase some different fancy colors but i dont need 1 litre of it.

If anyone wants to i can pour the paint in 250ml/500ml plastic bottles and ship it to you..

Let me know

Alright i have found a korean website who sells this edge tool. He explains that the double handle version works between 0-20 Volts and has 190 watts unit. And the single handle tool works with 0-16 volts , 48watts power.

Both units are heating up to the same temparature ranges. I do some soldering annd i know that using a more powerfull soldering iron will give more consistant temperatures since the unit heats up in a fraction of a second once the temperature drops due to heat transfer to the material you are working on.

I dont know how relevant is this for the leather. Any ideas?

Can you share some of Korea's Web site ? Thank you.

If you buy two small units is better than buying the double unit because if something goes wrong with the machine you would have to send it back to get fixed, if you have the singles and one goes bad you have the back up and be able to keep working.

In reference to the paint I use and italian brand line that has more options to achieve a better result with the edges, but is all about preferences.

No way buy two single units. Single unit and double are very different products. There is a reason why the double unit version is is triple price than one single hand unit.

The power outputs are different and this is what makes a huge difference. I have disassembled the unit my self to check the components. The unit is very simple and very high quality components used during production. Anyone with mediocre electronics knowledge can fix the units without problems. What makes these units pricey is the transformers. The transformers in these units are made in USA. That's what makes them pricey.

Can you elaborate on the difference between the two I thought that V out was 20 V and 16 V, maybe you already know something that no one knows about the equipment.

Thank You

Where did you buy yours??

I will just copy/paste what I wrote earlier since this is the answer to your question:

"the double handle version works between 0-20 Volts and has 190 watts unit. And the single handle tool works with 0-16 volts , 48watts power."

The transformers used in the double unit are more powerful than the single one. This is what makes the whole difference. And well this is a huge difference especially when you burn edges. The single unit is good for creasing. Not so for edge finishing. It can't keep up with the continuous heat transfer to the material on high temps.

There is a reason for it being cheaper.

And as I said before. It is a very basic u it. No complicated electronic parts. So the concern for sending it back to get it fixed should have no part on ones decision for which unit to purchase. Such a heavy piece of machinery even if it is a single unit, it is not cost effective to send for a repair anyway due to high shipping cost back and forth. Same quality replacement transformer should cost between 60-100$ depending on the power output. And this is probably the only part that will blow up. Maybe a transistor or two if you are using it heavily
