Tried To Sew On Instead Of Stamping A Pattern

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine from work asked me to try sewing on this pattern, instead of the traditional tooling. My lines got a little funny in spots and the thread got a little thick where I had to double the thread ends over themselves.

To be honest, I am not fond of the concept. But you always do what the customer wants.

You did a good job I just do not care for the idea.

I like it, would have probably double stitched the entire thing, if possible, to keep it looking uniform. Some stitching patters can be a maze to figure out!

On a side note I am curious on the construction of that holster if you have any pictures of the construction process. Reminds me of a Mernicle design I've been staring at for a while.

LOL...I could barely figure out stitching this thing one time around, but I completely agree it would look better if it was uniform. The design / construction method was taken from the 1911 Anniversary Pack that Will Ghormley put out. I think it was called the "Hugger" style. I made several modifications to the back plate, the most obvious was the elimination of one of the two front belt slots. The holster was also modified to accommodate a Glock 17. It seems like I'm making a few of these each month for people I work with. I'll take some photo's of the process for the next one I make.

Hope you don't mind me adding this, but this is the version of that holster Mernickle sells as a high ride. It has a flap of leather with a 'bumper' at the base that pushes against the muzzle to aid in preventing tip out. Every review I've ever seen has been a good one so I think your on a winning design! They also seem to demand a premium price.

I've nearly posted about this design more than once.

I like it also...love the pink thread! I'd also second Eaglestrokers suggestion to double stitch the entire design if you had to do it again. If you don't find further use for the pink thread I would consider buying a few yards from you :)

I think that is pretty cool as well. I like the idea. I would probably handsew the ribbon myself, but I am not that good with my machine yet either...
