Hi alberta, there are a couple of ways, but the easiest way is to turn the material around and sew 2 or 3 stitches, then turn the material around again and sew over the stitches that you just sewed, then repeat at the end. Thanks, Steve

I’m sewing back 5 or more stitches, then I close the seam with a hammer. Compressing the leather around the thread. Many layer of stitches make the seam ugly, especially with a thick thread.

Hello,

I think back stitching looks absolutely horrid in leather when the stitch is a visible top stitch.

At the end of the stitch, leave enough slack to pull the top thread through to the bottom so both pieces of thread are on the same side. I then tie the thread off with a double wrap square knot. Easy search on Google under surgical knots.
