I am not familiar with Tandy Leather Factory X-1 Leather Dressing. I am assuming it is an oil based finish / conditioner or protective coating?

There is an auction on ebay - search for: 130291444454 that contains two 32oz bottles.

I just checked the TLF web site and it appears to no longer be available.

Is this another product that has fallen victom to overzealous Eco-extremism?

Not sure if it was overzealous Eco-extremism, but it has been discontinued.

I think it's a water based acrylic sealer, similar to the old Highlighter. I use it quite a bit to seal leather before painting with acrylic paint, or as a stiffener when lifting hair or to shape feathers.

don't know about x-1 but, Tandy has a new formula tanner's bond contact cement that i won't buy again!

i loved the old stuff but what they have not is not working out.

biggest problem is trying to use the stuff when the temp is under 50 degrees. with the old stuff it could set in my gluing area (no heat) when it's in the teens outside and never had an issue. the new stuff also smells lots more and take much longer for the smell to go away

I got in on the tail end of the Tandy X-1, and I think still have part of a quart left. The LF manager who told me about it said it was one of their better products and slower movers. Originally it was put out by Drake's. At some point Tandy or TLF got the rights and I don't know if the formula was the same. Many of these chemicals have changed formulas a few times in the past. Changing formulas is nothing new.

X-1 seems to be a colored finish. It gives a mellow finish with medium tan to light brown highlights. I am not sure if it is an acrylic or what kind of base for sure. It works out good for a finish on vegtan liners that you don't want to oil, but want them to color up some. It highlights crease lines. It was kind of an all-in-one product.
