Brewers Pitch Handling(For Tankards And Bottles)

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

I've been making quite few tankards recently - up until now I've used purely beeswax to harden and seal the tankards, no problems so far. But I'd like to give brewers pitch a go.

Done plenty of googling, searched the forums and the following questions dont seem to get clear answers(it may of course be that I've been blind in my searches)

First question is with regard to safely melting it. Is this acheivable through a double boiler or does it required a higher tempurature. If so whats the recommended way of getting this hard black lump to flow nicely and of course without catching fire?

Secondly, Where to get it in the UK.

My current block of the black stuff came from traditional materials. At £10 per 500g the cost will soon add up given the number of tankards I have been asked for in the comming months. I was wondering is there is cheaper source - if not then i'll continue using TM as the source.

Mr Ogre.
