Everyone Has Been Asking:::

Recommended Posts

I am here now to drop a bomb on you leather workers and newcomers,masters and students.

I was sitting here thinking today about floral patterns and how they always seem to only use about 5-10 of the same flowers all the time.

I spoke to my Mom and she suggested doing a google search for EMBROIDERY PATTERNS. Because that is what my dad and his great-grandmother and father used to use for leather work on saddles and various art pieces.

I was astonished how many AMAZING FREE TEMPLATES CAME UP!!!!! AND EVEN MORE ASTONISHED I DIDN*T EVER THINK ABOUT IT UNTIL NOW!!!!!!!!!

Here is just a couple that I found as an example...

If you look around a lot of pictures lead you to http://www.french-kn...dery-transfers/, there are MANY possibly 1,000's of similar websites for Embroidery...and maybe JUST MAYBE we don't have to keep looking at the same ol' flowers and leaves in LEATHER WORK!

Good Luck and HAPPY CARVING!

Really? You just thought of that??? I feel so smart now :evillaugh:

Nah, My wife does a lot of embroidery, so I have a bunch of those sites handy already. Had she not shown them to me, i wouldn't have known either.

Oh yeah, and try airbrush or woodcarving stencils too :)

Thanks for sharing Chancey, I wouldn't have thought of this either! More resources to play with!

I have not done any floral patterns in more than 15 years, it has been mostly tattoo/day of the dead/sailor style stuff...so ya I didn't think about it until my mom stated the most obvious templates:)

I have to do some of that to the tele project and I kept coming up empty with anything I was inspired by to even attempt. But I think in looking through those types of Vintage Embroidery Patterns from France and England, I actually came up with another idea about the sides of the Guitar and its Western theme:)

I also look for inspiration from woodcuts, cloisonne, relief and bas relief, chip carving, scroll saw and intarsia patterns, stained glass, linocuts (linoleum block prints), ink painting... :) A lot of the handcrafted arts can take inspiration from other arts.

look at online scroll saw patterns, and especially children's' coloring books/pages.
