I got some attention and requests for the dyed effect on my first flyrod tube: Eureka.

This is how I did it:

1)All you need.

2)dauber on some red, streaking is a good thing. I use a red that is a bit thinned down here but Eureka was straight out of the can.

3)Here I use some acrylic sealer in an attempt to make some highlighted red fields aswell.

4)Goo some Tandy's mahogany antique on, lots of it.

5)Let it dry, try to get rid of some goo from the sealed parts.

6)Take of the rest with a damp cloth, have a source of water handy to wash out you cloth in between turns. Let the water penetrate the dried up black oil, goo it around, rub it in. One's gotta develop a feel for this I think.

7)Need more black so another round is up with antiquing.

8)That is just a pic of a fat layer of antiquing.

9)And here we see my watersource.

10) The candy is eaten..oh well I've taken off the antique once again and have a result that I settle with.

Hope this is understandable, otherwise just pop me any question.

One small note to this one, I'm gonna go with some gold detail on this one and funny thing is that when sealing (leathersheen) it will draw the underlaying antique's colour right through the golden dye and leave it with a slightly red tone on the gold.

All nice comments I've been given I feel obliged to you guys!

Tom, perhaps you get some nice ideas with this and that airbrush you have, I don't even know if antiques can be shot with one.

Gotta get me a gun but oh I don't have the money for it right now.

Good idea Max, off course I should have attached a pic when it was ready. Got my hands full so it slipped but I got 'em posted in show off for sure.

That's perfect, Tom! And a lot simpler than the technique I was using to get a similar effect.

This looked pretty good until I tried to seal it. Then the wet sealer ended up streaking the colors a bit. Very frustrating.

I can see what you mean Schno. My first experiences with this also got ruined when applying sealer.

The effect you got could maybe be used as a variation.

Yeah go ahead, it's a nice effect and also quite fun to work with. I always think of back in school when we had lessons were we worked with clay (not ClayB;-).

Definetly, those were the best lessons I think because it seems like I learned to use my hands a bit;-)
