  1. Really? I've been working on regular tooling leather and I've never had it wrinkle or take on a different texture from when I started. Are you saying it's because you tool it after you dye it?
  2. Here are two examples of what I'm talking about. I'm assuming both of these items are made with just tooling leather. Notice how both of them have that leathery texture to them? How do they get that effect? All the tooling leather I have is perfectly smooth.. http://usa.hermes.com/leather/accessories/charms/configurable-product-064935ca-34500.html?color_slg=BROWN&matter_leather=VEAU%20BARENIA
  3. would this be the same as a line 20 or 24 snap? http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/1250-01.aspx
  4. My friend asked me to make a bracelet similar to this, except black with embossed letters. What are those metal clasps called? I know they arent rivets, because rivets are almost impossible to undo.. http://www.polyvore.com/bad_kitty_collar/thing?id=10838012
  5. I just got a 14 by 17 slab of granite. It's HEAVY. Hope the desk doesn't break! Definitely is quieter though, I have pieces of a yoga matt under the slab so it softens the noise even more.
  6. Well I cant really get a new desk, this is my work desk I use for everything.. I was thinking of buying a work bench, but I need to look into that further. I'll call a counter top company, good idea.
  7. Would this be as effective as granite or marble? http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/32228-00.aspx
  8. My family has been throwing a fit about how loud it is when I'm hammering on leather. My desk is thin so it is very loud and sounds like someone is knocking on the door. What do you guys do to reduce the noise? I had to tool a belt sitting on my hardwood floor just because I didn't want to hear them complain. (working while sitting on a floor is horrible and difficult) If I put a granite slab on my desk above that foam stuff Tandy sells, will it reduce noise? Where would I even get a marble/granite/ whatever slab?

I was even more impressed by the photos. What camera do you use?
  10. Going to Tandy this weekend to buy the deluxe kit. I cant decide if I want to buy leather or just salvage leather from belts or things.. I'll ask a few people there what they think
  11. Right now I'm watching the Tandy tutorials. Are there any sort of "tool kits" you can buy for leather working? Like an automotive tool kit, except for leather tools. I'm not sure what I'd go buy if I had to get everything individually. I wouldn't spend more than $200. The closest leather store is Tandy and it's an hour and a half away, so I'd want to know what I'm getting before heading over there. I could also just order online..
  12. ...Because I'm sure this is asked every single day. I want to try leatherworking out. I may or may not like it, but I figure why not. I'd love to learn how to make watch straps. See, I dont know a single thing about leather. I dont know what tools I need or where to even start learning. I remember I learned how to use Photoshop from psdtuts.com. It's a website with nothing but photoshop tutorials, tips, and advice. I wish there was like, leathertuts.com. What resources did you guys use to learn? What was the first thing you attempted to make? I think I might start with a dog collar or something simple..
