Awls And Blades

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and just getting into leatherwork with moccasins. post-41506-0-42296200-1368475533_thumb.j I've found that it's very easy to destroy an awl blade. :) So now I want to replace my blade, for now and in the future. (This one is still usable and I'm sure I can sharpen it, but I'd like to have backups, given my working technique or lack thereof).

The stitching awl haft is a CS Osborne 145, as far as I can tell. Does anyone know if I need to get Osborne blades, or if any awl blades (such as the ones at Tandy) will fit? I asked them, but they said they didn't know and just to place an order and try it out. I'd rather see if there are any experts first who may know if sewing awl blades are generally interchangeable - both in fit and in quality.

Thanks in advance...!

My understanding is that Tandy's awl blades are nasty. I have an Osborne no42, works fine.

You can order the osborne awl blades. Or better yet call Sheridan Leather Outfitters and get a Douglas blade
