Lin Cable Thread 632 On 7 Spi Pictures?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any pictures of 632 lin cable thread stitching on 7SPI and 9 SPI. I know that 632 is used more often at 9 SPI, how does it look at 7SPI?

I've been using 432 on 9 SPI & 7 SPI and I really think it looks better on 7. It's starting to look too big for 9 now.

I'll be buying some 632 soon to use on 9. May be a week or two but I'll post some photos.

I think you get a better slant with a smaller thread to SPI ratio. I think a 632 on a 9 SPI will have a nicer slant than 432 on 9.

532 on 9 almost looks like it is too large. 632 I would agree would look better on 9.

632 on 7 is on the thinner side and I can't tell if it will be too thin.. If it is I guess I will just stitch with 9 SPI w/ 632 if it doesnt look good with the 7.

Thanks for the help.

thanks lilways.

632 looks better than 532 from what I see in your picture and what I have done with the 532.

Here's 532 lin cable with a blanchard 7spi iron. I know you asked for 632, but i hope this helps. The belt is 532 lin cable at 9spi and i think looks too big.

mud, your pictures made me realize how much leather effects the stitching. With thin leathers the stitching doesnt have that type of look in your wallet picture.

632 seems to be the most versatile size, not super thin like the 832, and slightly thinner than 532.

I know it isn't what you asked for, but here is a sample I made last night. It is 532 Lin Cable with 6mm, 5mm, 4mm, and 3mm diamond hole punches.

The 3mm is about 8.5 SPI and the 4mm is about 6.35 SPI.

Why do you need Vergez blanchard pricking irons? Your stitching looks very good so in what way do you think the blanchard pricking irons will change your stitching?

This is 632 and 8.5 SPI:

I agree, I have blanchard irons and never use them anymore. I use my japanese diamond pricking irons only these days. I feel that there is so much mistique surrounding pricking irons and pricking your holes with an awl as you go. People have romanticized the whole thing. I understand how it can be enjoyable, but the japanese irons/chisels are just a bunch of perfectly aligned diamond awls. The leather work coming out of Japan is incredible and most use diamond chisels. After your prick all the way through with your chisel, you need to massage the line of holes with your finger until they are all small and uniform. This helps all stitches lay in exactly the same way. Blanchard irons will not make your stitching look better, its just a different means to the same end. Most luxury makers prick all the way through with the blanchard irons and open with an awl anyway, the japanese chisels do that in one step.

Thanks, jonasbo, your opinion means a lot to me. Your briefcase was an inspiration when I started with leatherworking.

I don't know why I thought VB irons would improve my stitching, I am just looking to improve everything. I see the masters using VB irons and I can't help but think there is something about them.

Made any new cases lately?

Thanks alot. Actually I'm just about to make a duplicate of that briefcase. I made a us mail bag if you havn't already seen it: http://andersenleather.blogspot.dk/2015/05/us-mail-bag.html

I get you with the pricking irons. I have it exactly the same way. I would really like to try a VB to see what the fuss is all about.

I haven't stitched a 7 spi with 632 yet here is 7 with 432 and 9 with 432 and 632.

The black card wallet is 7 spi w/432.

The 2nd pic is 432/9spi on left and 632/9spi on right.
