Your Thoughts On Belts And Dye Or No?

Recommended Posts

I've seen belts done both ways.. some dye the inside layer and some leave it natural, saying that dye will rub off and ruin peoples clothes.

I bought some Wickett & Craig English Bridle, drum dyed and was hoping I could make a couple belts as well as a holster or sheath or three. Fisrt off... maybe this is the wrong material for belts.... but more than that, what are your thoughts on dye on both sides?

Thanks!

ShortBBL, your post reminded me of another similar one from April. Not sure if you saw it:

Finishing The Backside Of Belts

My initial feeling is that you'll need to do something to that drum-dyed leather to prevent rub-off, but I'd suggest performing a test first to see if it's even necessary. Get an old white t-shirt, and run the belt through it. See if it leaves any color. If it does, the above topic should provide some helpful options for you.

Good luck! -Alex
