Horn Carving

Recommended Posts

As we are a forum with a heavy focus on hand tools I figured I would ask if anyone can or knows anyone who can turn and carve horn?

I am after something such as the following.

post-7332-038197500 1286899389_thumb.jpg

The scales are taken form a straight I just brought, the blade shown is from a different blade which will fit the scales. The badger brush bristles I can supply as a knot ready to glue in.

Scales are easy to get in water buffalo horn but I would need someone to carve the pattern. The scales have a direct copy available for ease.

The brush is the main thing, Modeled after a 1905 walking cane handle to match the early 1900's scales, I can only provide several pictures. But any sheridan designer can probably get something easy.

Even more tricky, I want the size of it to be just right to have a screw section so that a shaving stick can be screwed into the brush itself.

Most of my horn work is 18th century repro so my carving skills are limited to scrimming. My best guess for what you are showing, would be to contact Phillip Montgomery. His carving skills are magnificent.

You can view some of his work and contact him through: http://bonecarverpm.deviantart.com/
