Hello from Switzerland

Recommended Posts

I'm living in Switzerland, very close to Zurich. I'm a 1966 creation, married, 1 son and member of the SASS (#72675). My hobbies are western riding, cowboy action shooting and leather work.

I have registered to LW because I'm very interested to learn from others and to share my experiance. I spend daily 30 minutes or more in reading thru the very interesting topics in this forum. I do saddlery work beside of my real job – as a balance between work and private live. My wife (and I :cowboy: ) own a western outfitter store. In this we built in a saloon and my "Western Saddlery". We did all construction work of the store, saloon and saddlery by our self.

Thank you for the possibility of beeing part of this large leather worker community!

Best regards

Rolf

Rolf,

:welcome: Glad you joined the Forum. I have not found a better leather craft forum on the web. You will find that that are lots of folks willing to offer their opinions and we don't always agree. There are lots of things to learn from this forum and things to try out until you find the ones that work for you and your style of leather work and the types of leather available to you. I look forward to hearing about some of your experiences. Again, Welcome to the Forum.

I like the look and feel of your workshop. Reminds me of an 1800's Office/Shop.

BillB.

Dear all, thank you for your warm welcome! The last twao weeks I have been very busy and was not able to do some saddlery work and for the leatherworker.net :-( ...

My worksop has to be so clean because the saddlery is an integrated part of my wifes western store. This store looks like an old western town and has an integrated saloon with bar, shreiffs office and much more. Now I have to search the forum for some hints about dying leater with fiebings leather dyes. With brown and tan colors I do not get good results :-(

WOW!! I'm impressed!!! Wonderful shop. But a question - According to all the Anti-Gun crusading fanatics in our wonderful Congress here in the USA, Europeans generally are forbidden to own pistols. They mouth that so-called "fact" as the primary reason all of Europe has a low crime rate. How does the SASS chapters there function? And, I didn't know there was much interest in our Old West over there.

Again, sincere compliments on your shop. It's an inspirational place indeed.

Hi William, In Switzerland we are allowed to buy and own weapons (even pistols) but we have to go through a process and we have to register all the weapons (except the very old ones). 90% of the Swiss males even have a automatic military gun at home incl. ammos and our crimerate is not higher then in other European countries. B.t.w. I have no clue on the crime rate in Europe compared with the US. SASS: In Switzerland we have the OWSSS -> www.owsss.ch (Old west shooting society Switzerland). Some of our members are also member of the SASS. The SASS chapters are not valid in Switzerland, but we have similar ones ;-)Best regads Rolf

Art

Dear Art, I do western riding without shooting ;-) - cowboy mounted shooting is not allowed in Switzerland.

Welcome, Rolf!

I'd like to see some pictures of the saloon you built.

Dear Bruce, attached some pics. The Saloon is operated during the openinig hours of my wife's western store and for one evening per month -> open house with live music. Let's say the saloon is some kind of hobby ;-)
