Of course is is as stiff as a board I was wonder if there was any way of bringing this back to life so I can tool on it. Did they even Veg Tan back then? I would try Montana Pitchblend, Pecard's, or another good oil and see how fast it takes it up and maybe even a second coat if it needs it. Let is stand a day or two afterwards so the oil can dustribute. It should tool well, but don't get used to it, you won't find much like it anymore.
