eBay marketing experiment

Recommended Posts

Okay, I know its a brand/designer, status thing, but I still cant help but think, what the!!! I listed a handmade bag for $160 and got nothing. I did however sell it locally for 160, so no biggie. I am going to try an experiment. Let me know if anyone has already tried this. I am going to make a clean simple shiny bag and list on ebay for $4300. If no one buys oh well, it was an experiment. If it sells, well, woohooo!

As I remember they sold for around $18,000 for that bag, 35 Birkin Croc. With the current exchange rate, probably $27,000 new now. You can get that bag under $10k if you keep your eyes open, really know what you are buying, and bide your time. If you want it right now, then you'll pay what you'll pay. But honestly, they are very nice quality and well made bags. I really like the Kelly a bit more though, but I'm an old fart.

I met a Hermes Leather craftsman master at a Hermes shop in Manhattan. We had a great discussion and he was showing me the calfskin sides used for many of the Hermes bags. He told me one side costs around $300.

I've been tempted to take one of my bags to him to get his opinion.

I"m on the same page as Kevin but, without ebay. I can only imagine what ebay's fees would be to list something with a vaule of $4300.

If i can get things done , i'm going to make a few pieces and set up at a art fair. You know with real art not a craft fair. it's a half and half crowd. One half that can't afford much of anything , if anything but love the show. While the other half want buy or give the time of day to something that's not pricey. So i'm hoping to make a few things and price the living carp out of them. Well i say that i'm really going to price them for what i consider to be the time invested price. I think alot of people here sell their stuff for to low. I've only seen a handfull of peoples stuff for sell though. Anyway we'll see how it goes , it's all about marketing and where you place yourself. Just like real estate it's all about location, location, location.
